What’s arriving . If you haven’t seen last year’s Oscar winner for best picture yet, here’s your chance. Tom Mc. Carthy’s incredibly engaging film—about the Boston Globe reporters who blew the lid off the Catholic Church sex- abuse scandal—is a beautiful study in precise filmmaking, a movie whose simplicity belies an intricate, careful construction. The cast, including Michael Keaton, Rachel Mc. Adams, and Mark Ruffalo, are all superb, and the film ends on a note that feels genuinely righteous. One of the most deserving best- picture winners of the new century.

  • Old Swap Meet for 1962, 1963, 1964, and 1965 Mopar: Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth, Parts and Vehicles For Sale and Wanted.
  • Here’s what the dealer has to say, in part: This is the very first production car to roll off the assembly line for the new launch of the Nissan 350Z series in 2002!

Cold in July (6/1)Director Jim Mickle’s grim, violent, twisty thriller begins as a revenge movie. Hall’s character shoots and kills a home invader, and the burglar’s father (played by beautifully weathered Sam Shepard) vows to avenge his son. Cold in July eventually heads toward something resembling Joel Schumacher’s. MM, only a little less annihilating. Enlivened by clever filmmaking and a nice performance by Don Johnson,Cold in July certainly isn’t a feel- good movie to kick off the summer with, but on some rainy day in June, it could do the trick. Tab Hunter Confidential (6/1)A winsome documentary about Tab Hunter, the Zac Efron of his day (meaning, a hunky, young actor who also did some singing), with Tab Hunter himself narrating much of the film. Hunter became a screen idol in the 1.

Hollywood was pretty much unthinkable. So the documentary is about an old system as much as it’s about an individual life. Director Jeffrey Schwarz mixes Hunter’s interviews with other talking heads—Clint Eastwood, Debbie Reynolds, John Waters—for an intimate portrait of a curious Hollywood story. There is something a little guarded about the film, owed probably to the internalized mores of Hunter’s era, but it’s still an engaging, good- hearted look at an erstwhile star of a show- business era long gone. Meadowland (6/1)While this gloomy drama about the parents of a missing child coming unraveled isn’t much fun, it’s a fascinating showcase for two women. The first is director Reed Morano, a lauded cinematographer who makes a confident directorial debut with this moody, evocative film.

Morano also shot the film, and she marries substance with style very well. Meadowland asserts her as a filmmaker to watch. The other woman is the film’s star, Olivia Wilde, who gives one of those indie- film performances that can help refocus an actor’s trajectory.

Haunted and intense, Wilde is a commanding presence, anchoring this grim, sad story with deep focus and commitment. Meadowland represents a turning point for two different careers, which makes it well worth watching. What’s leaving . Come back, Todd! TVWhat’s arriving . In its fourth season, Litchfield becomes a for- profit prison, leading to dangerous overcrowding—not to mention the arrival of new characters including Blair Brown’s Judy King (a Martha Stewart–esque figure busted in Season 3 for tax evasion) and a yet- undisclosed role played by Under the Dome’s Jolene Purdy. Oh, and both Lea De. Laria and Jackie Cruz have been promoted to series regulars, so expect to see more of Big Boo and Flaca than ever before.

A Very Secret Service (6/3. As Netflix expands its ever growing content library, it’s reaching more and more often into the well of foreign productions. Enter A Very Secret Service, a French comedy with apparent international appeal. Its creators bill the series as a cross between the James Bond franchise and The Office, which certainly sounds appealing; the period satire, set in the late 5. Parisian secret agent working for an organization that “still sees France as a colonial superpower and .

But if it sends a frisson of excitement up your spine, you already know that the original Voltron was one of the greatest trash heaps of the mid- 8. Japanese, animated series. Perhaps Dream. Works’ new take will bring some lucidity to the tale of “five unlikely heroes and their flying robot lions”; either way, for a certain type of person, this will be a nostalgia gold mine. Being Mary Jane (6/1. This juicy soap—one of the tiny handful of scripted TV programs that’s run by a woman of color, the formidable Mara Brock Akil—may be BET’s highest- rated drama, but it’s still woefully under the radar. Do yourself a favor and catch up on all three seasons (a measly 3. Mary Jane Paul (Gabrielle Union) have you hooked.

What’s leaving . Seuss (6/1. To be frank, there aren’t any must- watch series exiting Netflix in June—unless you count awful sitcoms (Mixology) or the lesser works of Jada Pinkett Smith (Hawtho. RNe). That said, you may want to take a peek at this charming, Jim Henson–produced kids’ show before it disappears.

The series, which features Seussian puppets frolicking against a variety of hilariously bad C. G. I. Theater nerds will also be pleased to learn that it features voice work and puppeteering from Stephanie D’Abruzzo, a Tony- nominated original cast member of Avenue Q. Full List of Arrivals.
